AYAA Contest: Free Tickets to a Show at Theater Works!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Gentleman's Guide contest. Recently, we passed 2000 page views. I was going to hold off and do this next contest at 2500 views, but I'm just so darn excited I can't wait!

Theater Works has graciously given me not 2, not 4, but SIX tickets to give away. (They will be given away in pairs.) Theater Works currently has three different sections of its theatre programming: MasterWorks, YouthWorks and PuppetWorks. I have one pair of tickets for each of the three programs to give away.

Info about TheaterWorks can be found here: http://theaterworks.org/

Here's how this contest will work: (Must be an AZ resident to enter!)

1. You can enter this contest without having a Facebook page. However, if you do have a Facebook page, we encourage you to like both the Arizona Young Actors' Alliance Facebook Page and the Theater Works Facebook Page. If you have not done so already, liking each page is worth one point per page.
2. Sharing this contest on Facebook or Twitter is worth 1 point every time you share. Just make sure you send me a screenshot or tag AYAA in it on Facebook so I see it.
3. Like last time, submitting a Bedroom Session is worth six entries and submitting a review of the show is worth 4.
4. Answering this question on Culturalist and then sharing the link to your response in the comments below or on Facebook. You can check out my answers as well! Here's the link!

For the first four, these give you entries for all the different sets of tickets (PuppetWorks, YouthWorks and Theater Works) so in reality you're getting triple entries. The following ways to gain entries go with one of the three specific groups of tickets.

5. Commenting on this post or the Facebook post will earn you two points (per question answered). Answer the question (or questions!) for the tickets you wish to be entered for:

  • PuppetWorks: What is your favorite puppet based entertainment? A live puppet show near you? A Jim Henson movie? The Muppets? Avenue Q?
  • YouthWorks: What's the first show you remember seeing live on stage?
  • MasterWorks: What's your favorite play?
6. If you e-mail me a story about one of the three things below, you will earn three entries. I love a good story!
  • PuppetWorks: Recall a funny experience with puppets/people in costumes/mannequins/etc.
  • YouthWorks: Recall a funny experience with kids. Bonus point if it's theatre related.
  • MasterWorks: One of the shows Theater Works is doing this year is Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which is all about family dynamics. Share an interesting story about your family.
All e-mailed submissions should be sent to mackenna.azyoungactors@gmail.com.

The TheaterWorks contest will end on September 19th at 9 PM! This way, if you are interested in seeing the YouthWorks production of The Jungle Book, you will still have time. Thank you so much for your entries!

Also! Everyone who enters the contest will get a shout out on the Facebook page which will make you look like a good person in front of all your friends, so go you!

  1. Puppetworks: My friggin' all time favorite puppet based entertainment is the Playhouse Disney Live (now call Disney Junior Live) is Disneys California Adventure. It was so great being able to see these tv shows you've been watching since 6am every Saturday morning come to life with the puppets on stage (I'm not entirely sure if I knew they were puppets at the time, but whatever).

Youthworks: OH DANG I get teased about this by my theatre friends because of how ridiculous it is, and because this show became my absolute favorite, but the first show I ever saw live was Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. Apparently, a lot of people don't like that show, but it stays with me even today because 1. I love the music and the heavy dancing in the show and 2. It's the show that got me interested in theatre and I will always appreciate it for that.

Masterworks: My favorite play is definitely Peter and the Starcatcher. I saw it when it toured to ASU Gammage my sophomore year of high school and I didn;t really know what to expect besides what a lot of my choir friends had said about it (they knew about the show because the top choir in my school got to go to NY for their tour that year and saw it Off-Broadway). What also made me love it was the guy playing Blackstache or whatever his name was, because my season tickets are to Sunday matinees and there was a point in the show where he slams his hand off by a chest closing on his wrist and rants, "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" for a solid 2 minutes. He stopped midsentence and realized, "Oh crap, it's Sunday" and kind of broke a little on stage a laughed it off. He then continued, "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" and the audience ate it up. It was beautiful.
